Swallows gathering on the wires, getting ready for a great journey - a celebration of natural beauty. Warm amber, burnt orange, and soft charcoal hues create a dreamy, atmospheric backdrop, evoking the calm and reflective moments just before dusk. 'Evening Swallows' blends realism with impressionistic texture, giving a sense of motion and life as a few birds soar mid-flight while others perch in quiet harmony.

Lily has developed a unique way of working, using reproductions of her own paintings as collage material. Here the birds are meticulously painted, reproduced, and cut, ready to use on the canvas. The semi-abstract background is painted with acrylics. The use of collage allows the freedom to play with the composition in a way which would otherwise be impossible, allowing for intuitive adjustments until a design is settled upon. When the birds are fixed in place, washes of ink have been applied. Finally, a glossy varnish enhances colour, adds protection, and offers an opulent shine.

Nature is at the heart of Lily’s work, though her approach is not about strict realism. Instead, she hones in on an aspect of its beauty and lets it unfold, creating something that invites joy and appreciation. Simplicity is key—offering a piece that is both visually striking and emotionally resonant.

The canvas is stretched on a deep edge wooden frame with painted sides. Included is a made to measure box/tray frame, which is easy to remove if preferred. The frame is finished with Littlefair's water based non-toxic water stain in Light Oak. Ready to hang.

Please be aware that this canvas has a gloss finish, and some surface texture/relief as a result of the layered collage material and varnish.
